Electric Bike Rental in Gdańsk — Do You Need an E-Bike and Where to Rent One?

Gdańsk is one of the best cities in Poland for cycling — an extensive path network, a flat city centre, and the Baltic Sea on the doorstep make riding easy and enjoyable. But is a traditional bike enough for every route? Or is an electric bike worth the investment?

The answer depends on what you want to see and how far you plan to ride. Below you will find a practical guide to the terrain of Gdańsk and its surroundings that will help you decide whether an e-bike is the right choice for your trip.

The Terrain — Where Is It Flat and Where Do the Hills Begin?

The Main Town and The Old Town— Flat Ground

Gdańsk's most famous attractions — the Long Market, the Neptune Fountain, St. Mary's Basilica, the Gdańsk Crane, and the Museum of the Second World War — are situated on completely flat terrain. Exploring the historic centre by bike requires little physical effort, and a standard city bike will do the job perfectly. The Old Town streets are narrower and busier with pedestrians, but the short distances between landmarks make it easy to get around without motor assistance.

The Coastal Path — Flat and Scenic

The bike paths along the Baltic coast are wide, well maintained, and run on level ground. Views of the Bay of Gdańsk make every kilometre a pleasure. Along the way you can stop at beach cafés, rest on shaded benches, or ride down to one of the city's beaches — at Stogi, Brzeźno, or Jelitkowo. An electric bike is not essential here, but if you are planning a longer distance (for example, all the way to Sopot and back), motor assistance will add comfort to the ride.

The Tri-City Landscape Park — Where the Challenge Starts

If you are planning a trip to the Tri-City Landscape Park, prepare for very different terrain. Moraine hills with steep climbs, deep ravines, and forest paths — this is where an electric trekking bike or e-MTB becomes a real asset. Trails such as the climb to Pachołek Hill or the route along the Samborowo Valley offer stunning views but demand solid fitness. With an electric motor, the same trails become accessible to everyone.

When Is an Electric Bike the Right Choice?

The Sobieszewo Island Loop (approx. 50 km)

Sobieszewo Island is one of the most beautiful spots near Gdańsk — a nature reserve, bird sanctuaries, wild beaches, and silence. The full loop around the island including the return to central Gdańsk, however, covers around 50 kilometres. Over that distance, electric assistance proves extremely helpful, especially for riders with lower fitness levels or those planning a full day in the saddle with plenty of stops. An e-bike lets you enjoy the landscape instead of counting the kilometres to the finish.

The Gdańsk–Sopot–Gdynia Route (approx. 30 km one way)

The ride from Gdańsk to Sopot is a classic — roughly 10–12 km along the coast on flat ground, manageable for any cyclist. But beyond Sopot the character of the route changes. A hilly path begins along the clifftop towards Gdynia, offering breathtaking views of the bay. An electric bike is worth considering if you plan to continue all the way to Gdynia or want to explore Upper Sopot with its picturesque villas on steep streets.

The route works well as a loop: ride along the sea to Sopot first, then return through Oliwa with its cathedral and organ concerts, artsy Zaspa with its famous large-format murals, and lively Wrzeszcz. That kind of trip fills a whole day, and an e-bike will significantly boost your comfort, especially on the return leg.

MTB Trails in the Tri-City Landscape Park

For thrill-seekers, the Tri-City Landscape Park features purpose-built single-track trails run by Big Foot Works. These forest MTB routes let you experience the Tri-City in an entirely new way — with plenty of adrenaline and technical challenges. You will need a proper MTB bike, and an electric e-MTB works even better, providing support on the climbs while giving you full control on the descents.
