Nature Cycling in Gdańsk — Exploring the Tri-City Landscape Park by Bike

Nature Cycling in Gdańsk — Exploring the Tri-City Landscape Park by Bike

The Tri-City Landscape Park covers over 200 square kilometres of green space surrounding the entire Tri-City agglomeration. Well-marked hiking and cycling trails, clean streams, viewpoints, and a silence you will not find downtown — all of this makes the Park a magnet for residents and visitors seeking active recreation away from the crowds.

No Bike? No Problem

If you do not have bikes for everyone in your group, there is no need to worry. You can always rent bikes in central Gdańsk — we offer city bikes, electric bikes, trekking bikes, and children's bikes. And if you prefer to explore with a guide, you can join the bike tours run by Poland By Locals. Tours depart from ul. Chlebnicka 19/20 everyday at 10:00 AM.

How to Prepare for Forest Riding

How to Prepare for Forest Riding

The Tri-City Landscape Park is a fascinating destination for a full-day cycling trip, but the terrain is very different from the flat seaside paths or the Old Town streets. The Park sits on a post-glacial landscape — moraine hills with fairly steep climbs alternate with deep gorges and stream valleys. If you prefer an easy, relaxed ride, stick to the coastal and city routes closer to the shore.

What bike to bring? A mountain bike (MTB) or a trekking bike with wider tyres and a broad gear range will work best. City bikes with narrow tyres are not suited to forest trails — they will simply get stuck on sandy or muddy sections. Tyres at least 40 mm wide are the absolute minimum.

What to pack? Water (at least 1.5 litres per person), energy snacks, a helmet, a basic repair kit (spare inner tube, patches, pump), and a phone with a full battery. There are no shops or cafés in the forest — this is a genuine escape from civilisation. Depending on the weather and time of year, expect muddy stretches, puddles, and the occasional need to push your bike up the steepest climbs. But is that not the whole point of riding through nature?

Best Cycling Routes in the Tri-City Landscape Park

Best Cycling Routes in the Tri-City Landscape Park

The TPK offers dozens of trails of varying length and difficulty. The surface is mainly forest paths and dirt roads — some stretches are covered with gravel, others surprise you with tarmac, while deeper in the forest you will encounter soft sand and tree roots. Here are three tried-and-tested options.

The "1000 kcal" Loop — Short but Intense (approx. 53 km)

A popular route among local cyclists, designed to burn serious energy over a relatively short distance. Numerous climbs and descents across the moraine hills will put your legs to work. The trail passes through scenic sections of the Park with viewpoints overlooking the valleys and surrounding forest. Ideal for an afternoon ride when you do not have a full day but want a proper workout. Route details on Traseo.

The TPK-10 Loop — a Park Classic (approx. 20 km)

A longer trail circling the central section of the Tri-City Landscape Park. It leads through the most beautiful stretches of beech forest, past streams, old stone bridges, and clearings. Well marked, with several rest spots along the way. This is an excellent option for a relaxed full-day nature trip with family or friends, provided everyone has a suitable bike. Route details on Traseo.

Gdynia–Kołeczkowo–Wejherowo–Puck–Gdynia — the Grand Loop (approx. 96 km)

A route for experienced and fit riders. Around 100 km of varied terrain, with several demanding climbs at the start, a descent through Nowy Dwór Wejherowski, and 12–13 km of quiet tarmac through the Darżlubska Forest. The return leg runs through Puck and along the coastal bike path back to Gdynia. Riding time is 3–5 hours depending on fitness and weather. This one is for those who want a real challenge and a chance to see the Kashubian countryside from the saddle. Route details on Traseo.

Why Choose the Forest Over the City?

Gdańsk offers excellent conditions for both urban and off-road cycling — and that is what makes it truly special on Poland's cycling map. In a single day you can explore the historic centre by bike in the morning and lose yourself in the quiet of the Tri-City Landscape Park in the afternoon. This variety makes Gdańsk an ideal destination for a cycling holiday, whether you prefer tarmac or gravel trails.
